CENTCOM Destroys 5 More IRGC Crude Carriers After Missile Attacks on US Warship

U.S. Central Command said it destroyed five Iranian crude oil carriers on September 8, 2026, after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targeted a U.S. Navy warship with ballistic missiles twice over the past two days, BNO News reported, citing CENTCOM. The warship successfully evaded the attempted attacks and no American personnel were harmed.

CENTCOM said it struck the M/T Kaviz, M/T Charminar, M/T Horizon 1 and M/T Riesco in the Gulf of Oman, as well as the M/T Derya near Iran’s Kharg Island. American forces directed the crews to abandon ship before the vessels were struck and rendered inoperable. The command said Iran uses the tankers as part of a multibillion-dollar shadow network that funds the IRGC and its regional proxies.

Jordan retaliation; destroyer claims IRGC-only

Iran responded by firing missiles toward U.S. forces in Jordan. Al Jazeera stamps IRGC claims of fierce missile strikes on Al Azraq base; Al-Monitor (Sep 8, 2026) reports the IRGC said it targeted fighter hangars and maintenance facilities at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan.

Jordan’s Armed Forces said air defences engaged 20 ballistic missiles, successfully intercepting and destroying 18, while two missiles fell in unpopulated areas; the attacks caused no casualties, per Al Jazeera.

The IRGC also claimed ballistic missile attacks on U.S. Navy destroyers USS Delbert D. Black (DDG-119) and USS John Paul Jones (DDG-53), saying those vessels took significant damage — attributed as IRGC claims only; Al Jazeera notes there was no U.S. comment on those destroyer claims in early reporting. The IRGC also warned tanker crews in Kuwaiti and Bahraini ports to abandon ships near U.S.-linked facilities.
