GBP/USD gathers strength near 1.3645 in Friday’s early Asian session, trading near 1.3650. That is the FXStreet 01:55 UTC stamp. The pound is firmer as the dollar softens on fading bets for an immediate Fed hike.
GBP/JPY stays the live cross tape. Friday’s dollar index is the live DXY tape.
UK July retail sales are preview only
July UK retail sales have not printed. Economists on that page project a 0.5% month-on-month decline after 1.0% in June. That is the preview. It is not the release.
The same page reprints CME FedWatch at a 64% chance the Fed holds in September and a 36% chance of a hike. A Reuters poll, as reprinted there, has the Bank of England leaving Bank Rate at 3.75% for the rest of the year.
Charu Chanana, chief investment strategist at Saxo, said higher Treasury yields do not necessarily underpin the dollar if investors read the move as fiscal risk, heavier government borrowing, or persistent inflation rather than stronger US growth or tighter policy.
The Reserve Bank of India is likely selling dollars for rupees to support the currency. USD/INR is little changed so far on Friday. The range is mid to high 95. There is no live pair number on this page.
The euro trades around 1.1680 against the dollar in Friday's Asian session, stronger for a third day. Eurozone and German flash PMI are still upcoming.
